| Can anyone tell me if a camcorder's internal mic can handle loud music (not clipping/distorted) a few metres away from loudspeakers by adjusting the volume alone. OR Will I require an external mic? | Can anyone tell me if a camcorder's internal mic can handle loud music (not clipping/distorted) a few metres away from loudspeakers by adjusting the volume alone. OR Will I require an external mic? Which camcorder? Who can say? Try. DOES your camcorder have recording volume adjustment? Many don't. The onboard mic (or the sort of mic sold as a camcorder accessory) will only take you so far. For many applications it's fine. But if you want better I suggest you record audio separately. Fortunately, with today's digital cameras and audio recorders you'll get away with wild synch. on everything but the longest shots. The camera's soundtrack makes an excellent visual reference when aligning the external audio in your editing software. But if all this is way beyond your resources (or the amount of trouble the job is worth ;-) just go back to what I first suggested. Try, and see what happens. |

Thanks, Alan Beware of replaying your loud music with your camcorder's internal speaker volume set high. I recorded an indoor gig and when uploading to my PC, I burnt out the internal speaker on my Sony TRV22 (most items were at a low level, but the 5 minute finale was loud and on uploading that, the loudspeaker burnt out). From memory, the sound captured showed little distortion. For my Minidisc recordings I've knocked up a 9V battery box, and this allows use of cheap electrets direct into the Line-In on the Minidisc recorder. This provides the polarising voltage for the electrets, operates them at their optimum supply voltage level, and bypasses the recorder's pre-amps and high sound levels are handled with ease. -- M Stewart Milton Keynes, UK -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |
