Default quality problems on pc

In message , dd
writes
having just bought a panny 60B cam and installed a firewire card on my pc
(running xp) i am really disappointed as to the quality of the playback on
the pc when viewing it though movie maker. Is that just an editing version
or is that the sort of quality i can expect. Any suggestions or help
please.

Most video editors either do (or default to [1]) displaying on screen in
low resolution (aka low quality). The reason for this is that rendering
on screen gobbles up system resources (CPU and memory). These resources
are required for other editing processes. You should appreciate that
video editors are exactly that - editors and not viewers.

[1] Vegas 4 gives you the option of changing the resolution that you
view your video at while editing. However, personally I wouldn't
recommend it.
