Default IRDA and Freeview recording

Hi all,
Not sure if this is the correct Newsgroup, but I have been recording TV
to my PC for a while now, and am interested in changing the channel on my
Freeview (UK) box, turning on and off television etc, etc, from my infrared
device.
I have been searching the net for the last 2-3 days for information, and
yes there are devices I can buy that will allow me to (Redrat for example),
but I currently have a USB IrDA device that I use for my mobile and PDA, and
was wondering whether it was possible to use that?

Any information, links, correct newgroup would be greatly appreciated.

Martin

I'm quite prepared to be shot down on this Martin, but I
fear you may be on to a loser. AFAIK most domestic
remotes use RC6 (?) encoding which is not compatible
with IrDA.

Remote Central http://www.remotecentral.com/ have lots
of IR codes for all sorts of devices..

Tony,
Thanks for that, I feared it may be the case. I'll probably have to look
into buying a com IR device and doing it that way. Anyone recommend any of
those then?

Martin
