Default Mirovideo DC30 plus?

Hi all
At the weekend someone gave me one of these, boxed with all the manuals.
I looked on the pinnacle website for more info, but there didn't seem to
be much, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it.
My main questions a
1. Is this an old card? If so, how old, and would it be compatible with
win XP?
2. Would the card be any good for use in capturing from VHS tape for DVD
conversion?
I didn't glean that much from the manual, except that it seems to be
geared towards capture from camcorder.
Thanks in advance for any info, or a good URL to read up on would do
nicely.

Yes.

No. AFAIK there are no drivers available for Win2K or XP.

Yes, providing you're not running 2K or XP.

You don't mention what camcorder you have. Chances are, if you have a
Sony camcorder with DV-in you can already do what you require. See my
reply in the "Sony TRV3555e PAL" thread for how to do it.

Many thanks for the info. I have a win98 box around so may try firing it
up. I don't have a camcorder - I mainly use my equipment to convert old
tapes via a vcr. I guess its worth playing with to see what happens.

In the absence of a camcorder with analogue-in, the best and most
cost-effective way to import analogue is the AverTV Studio card. This
comes with an on-board hardware signal processor that produces pretty
good MPEG-2.

It also comes with a good TV tuner, VHF tuner and a pretty good video
recorder. Remote control too. It knocks the Haupauge kit into a
cocked-hat.

You can use this card with Windows XP - I have one and capture analogue
video with it and works really well. You can't however use the audio input
on the card, you must use the line in on your sound card.

I will dig out some useful sites for you and post them later.

Thanks that would be great. I love fiddling with old stuff and have a
spare xp PC to work with.

If I remember right, I used the DC10 hardware installer from Pinnacles FTP
site:

ftp://ftp.pinnaclesys.de/

You have to capture audio via the soundcard but the video is captures as
MJPEG and it is v good quality - some people have reported AV synch
problems, but I've not come across that.

Thanks - I have a nebula card (digital TV) and an nvidia home cinema
(analog) both of which work very well indeed and record direct to mpeg2.
I wouldn't normally need to go out and buy another one, but as this was
given to me gratis, I just wondered if I could make use of it on one of
my other PCs. I agree that just about anything knocks hauppauge into a
cokced hat. I had two of their offerings before my present setup, and
they were ruddy awful - the software is the worst I have ever dealt
with. So.....er.......if anyone wants a hauppauge pvr just let me know
:-)))))
