A replacement option is a 60GB drive but there are versions with 2MB, 4MB, 8MB and 16MB cache. Also 4800 and 5400 rpm. Obviously the speed will give faster seek. Will the 16 MB cache have any effect on streaming (beneficial or detrimental) over the 2MB my present drive uses? Richard more cache is good as it a faster speed (in this case 5400 and 16MB) |

That way he can get a 7200 hard disk of any size at a lot lower cost than that of a 2.5" laptop disk. It also can be used on any other computer (as plug-and-play). Don't get a USB2 one though - they're slow (though they're not supposed to be). -- Tony Morgan |

| Tony, I *do* have a firewire external drive. It is a 3.5" maxtor in firewire case and also a CD/DVD writer in same case. Very fast but gollops power. As my laptop resides on board a boat with limited power - it takes about 3 Amps on it's own - I try to simplify things and minimise consumption by only using the firewire drives for transfer to other machines or backing up to DVD (as DV and data, not mpeg).
