When I was on holiday recently in San Francisco I was accosted by a
salesperson who dragged me into his shop and proceeded to show me how a
replacement lens would improve the camera. The lens appeared to be wide
angled and definitely improved the quality of the camera. He told me that
the current lens on the camera was very good and Panasonic did not provide
as good a lens now. He started off at an asking price of 500 dollars and
eventually went down to 80 dollars. I was very tempted to buy the lens as
it made such an improvement especially in low light but I was concerned
about being ripped off especially as he had reduced the price so much.

Could I have comment on the replacement lens, its availability and price. It
was shown to me as taken out of a kodak box.

Many thanks

But AIUI the DS27 has a built in lens so how could it have been a
'replacement' lens, an add-on adaptor may be, if the rep' was calling
it a *replacement* lens he is a clueless idiot IMO!

This sounds very much like a trick a lot (most) of the electronics shops do
in the tourist zones of Tenerife; They get you in with phoney offers, then
ask dumb questions like: "Will you be wanting the lens and the battery for
the camera, Sir? And the strap, case.......?" Guess what the total comes to?
I had to regularly warn any of our visitors about this practice. But the
best trick, which worked surprisingly often, was where they sold the victim
a *special lens adapter* "Without this item your videos will all be rubbish,
how do you think Professionals get such good results? - Watch the TV screen
above while I demonstrate for you, Sir....." On goes the UV filter (not even
a good quality make)..... and the price? A snip at 95 euros!

Rob

Many thanks

The explanation seems about right. Many of the shops on the waterfront have
tvs on the counter and they connect up the cameras and show you the
improvement by fitting this 'wide angled uv lens' It certainly seems to
make a difference. Is it worth buying if so how much should I pay for one?

Thanks for the replies.

What difference did it make?

What was it? A UV filter? A wide-angle adaptor? Did you get a name
or model number?

What needs improving about the video you shoot?

Are you in URGENT need of some retail therapy? :-)
