| Some time ago I created some .avi files using the Data Translation 'Broadway' capture card and software. Now I no longer use Broadway but have changed to Studio9 with the Pinnacle av/dv capture card. I now wish to edit some files which were created with the Broadway system but find that the .avi files are not recognised by Studio. This is presumably because the Broadway codec is no longer present on my computer. The Broadway manual states "You can convert a Broadway .avi file to another type of .avi file if the codec for the other type of .avi file is on your PC". This is what I would like to do - but it doesn't say how. Will I have to re-install Broadway as well as Studio, or would this give rise to conflicts?? Or is there an easier way?? TIA |

Yes, and if you need to find out what Codec a clip uses then GSpot is the tool - both are free. |

| If you simply want to change the file format, try Microsoft Windows Media Encoder here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.aspx - its free. |

I used a free canopus product when I got stuck I think it is type 1 avi to type 2. I'm sure you guys will be able to say http://www.canopus-uk.com/US/product..._converter.asp Margaret |

GSpot informed me that "the codec used in my file is BW10 Broadway MPEG Capture/Compression. It is NOT installed on my machine". How do I install it? Do I have to re-install the Broadway capture card - and might this conflict with my existing Pinnacle capture card? |

I downloaded and installed Windows Media Encoder. It appears to be able to conver avi files to wmv format - but it won't convert my file, it reports that the necessary codec is not present. How do I install it? Do I have to re-install the Broadway capture card - and might this conflict with my existing Pinnacle capture card? |

Have you done a Google search for the **CODEC** alone, you should be able to install that without problems, it's quite possible that installing any program (software) will change defaults etc. in your registry files. |

Yes I have Jerry. It does not appear to be available, I suspect because the codec is partially implemented in hardware in the capture card. It would appear that my only option is to re-install the capture card but I am reluctant to do this in case it upsets my present capture card setup. Malcolm |

Re-install the card It co-exists with my firewire and other cards. I don't use broadways own capture software ( my disc got trashed in the post ) but have installed the drivers and other software happily captures from the card.
