| You just might be able to install the software without actually installing the card. Check the install disk to see if you can locate the codec. Otherwise there are may free codec collections available. "Malcolm H" wrote in message ... "Dr Lodge (deja)" wrote in message oups.com... If you simply want to change the file format, try Microsoft Windows Media Encoder here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.aspx - its free. Thank you Dr Lodge. I downloaded and installed Windows Media Encoder. It appears to be able to conver avi files to wmv format - but it won't convert my file, it reports that the necessary codec is not present. How do I install it? Do I have to re-install the Broadway capture card - and might this conflict with my existing Pinnacle capture card? |

| Check out this page - you may have to find out first who the publisher of the Broadway codec is.. http://www.codec-download.com/module...nload&cid=4 9 "Malcolm H" wrote in message ... Some time ago I created some .avi files using the Data Translation 'Broadway' capture card and software. Now I no longer use Broadway but have changed to Studio9 with the Pinnacle av/dv capture card. I now wish to edit some files which were created with the Broadway system but find that the .avi files are not recognised by Studio. This is presumably because the Broadway codec is no longer present on my computer. The Broadway manual states "You can convert a Broadway .avi file to another type of .avi file if the codec for the other type of .avi file is on your PC". This is what I would like to do - but it doesn't say how. Will I have to re-install Broadway as well as Studio, or would this give rise to conflicts?? Or is there an easier way?? TIA |

TIA Thank you all for your very helpful advice. I have now managed to instal the Broadway codec. I did this by re-installing the Broadway capture card and downloading the latest driver from www.b-way.com. After doing this my old Broadway .avi files became readable and editable with Studio9 - and there were no conflicts with the Pinnacle capture card. I then removed the Broadway capture card and everything still worked! Perhaps the Bway drivers would have done the trick without reinstalling the Broadway card? - I shall never know! By the time I discovered that everything worked after removing the Bway card I had already converted some of the files from Bway AVI to JMPEG AVI. I did this with the help of GSpot and VirtualDub. Both very good programs! Thank you to Geoff Lane and :::Jerry:::: for the pointers. I now feel older and a little wiser. |
