| I want to convert all by old Hi8 tapes to digital (eventually to DVD) with minimum loss of quality and need guidence to help me work out the best way to do it. My camcorder has an s-video output my video card does not have s-video imput but is a high spec machine. What capture resolution and frame rate should I be looking for (I assume there is a point where it is a waste of effort trying to beat) What is the best but economic way of capturing the video whilst keeping the available quality. I assume this will be MPEG2? Also what capture device would be suitable? - I have seen USB capture devices at about 60GBP but have not heard good things. An alternative would be a TV card with S-video input - I do not know if this is a good way to go (again around 50GBP). Lastly is the option to go for a PVR card with hardware encoding at around 120GBP. Will any of these meed my needs? Thanks, Bob |

Try the Canopus ADVC-50 or ADVC-100 for direct to PC capture or a DV camcorder with analog-in. |
