Hi, yes I have just checked again and can see a listing under IEE 1394 host
bus controllers and also under network adapters.

Thanks

Try looking at this link especially the postings from Gromit around May 25th
onwards

as his posts cover just about all the possibilities.

Thanks all you folks for the replys, I have read the manual numerous
times
and understand the camera main switch and have tried again today with a
new
good quality firewire cable so I am beginning to think that I may have a
problem with my Firewire card and may just have to go out and buy a new
one
to at least eliminate that possibility as from what you say windows XP
should spot the camera as soon as it is connected and turned on
regardless
of what editing software I am going to use.

Just to confirm that when your original phrase "Window says my firewire
card and
controller are working ok" means that you can see a host entry in device
manager
under IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers.

If your not creating a network via IEEE 1394 then disable that network
controller in Device Manager. It may not solve your problem but it could
increase the windows loading speed.

Final thanks for all constructive assistance, I thought I would you good
people know that after checking everything computer related I managed to
borrow a camera of the same type as mine and as soon as this was connected
through the firewire cable my computer recognised it and I had instant
success, therefore I deduce firewire socket on my 7 month old camera is
faulty and will be going for the relevant warranty repairs shortly. From
this little episode I have now learnt not to take it for granted that just
because something is almost new and never been used before does not mean
that it will work ok !

Thanks again.
