Default cam fault

Would anybody here have any idea what is wrong with a friends samsung vp-d80
cam? When power up or during use, the camera display appears very blurred
with horizontal black/white lines. It appears not to be sensing picture
correctly then is ok for a while? Thanks for any tips.

Is the above what is recorded to tape or is it what is viewed though
the VF - or both. If it's what is recorded, does the recording
contain the problems when played back from another camera?

I assume that your friend has tried using a head cleaning tape?
