| I note that there's now a choice of compact DVD players (around 7" screen size), and have wondered whether to get one so that I can play back my "video masterpieces" g, when away from base. Was told today that they all have an AV In socket, and on the one I examined it was a 3.5mm co-axial. Does anyone know who supplies suitable cables i.e. 3.5 to 3.5mm. I don't particularly want to use two cables both going from 3.5mm to a trio of phono plugs (Red, Yellow & White) with an AV phono to phono adapter in the middle. My camera is a Sony. (I'm aware of the differences between Sony & Panasonic AV 3.5mm plugs.) Thanks -- M Stewart Milton Keynes, UK http://www.megalith.freeserve.co.uk/oddimage.htm |

I have been thinking the same but for use with a digital stills camera ( I have a Casio hand TV that I can view with but that only 2.5 inch) Getting on a bit I find If I get down for a low level shot I have a problem getting back up:¬) My reading of the info on them show's they have video out to TV but no mention of Video in. |

Was told today that they all have an AV In socket, and on the one I examined it was a 3.5mm co-axial. They don't _all_ have a/v in. I bought one to use as an external monitor when shooting required my camera to be right up against a wall on its left hand side (i.e. just for framing the shot, not colour work or anything fancy). I've just been looking for a bigger-screen upgrade, but there aren't any with a/v-in available from my regular supplier in 10.5", and the 8" one he does have isn't enough to justify the change. Does anyone know who supplies suitable cables i.e. 3.5 to 3.5mm. I don't particularly want to use two cables both going from 3.5mm to a trio of phono plugs (Red, Yellow & White) with an AV phono to phono adapter in the middle. Can't help with that, sorry. I'm content with two sets of wires... |

I've looked myself with no success. However, you might know someone who can use a soldering iron, who can make one up using these items from Maplins: 4-Pole 3.5mm Jack Plug Part Code: QT65V Qty: 2 at 99p each 4-core cable Code: XR92A Qty: 1m at 49p/m This is a grey cable, black is available with code: XR91Y Maplins can be found at: http://www.maplin.co.uk If you ring or order on-line before 4PM then you'll usually get your goods the following day. -- Tony Morgan http://www.camcord.info |

Thanks for all the replies, guys. Very helpful - I'll obviously have to be quite careful before making any purchase to ensure that the 3.5mm socket actually does allow AV in. I've done plenty of soldering in my time, and I have the right tools, but I'm not as neat as I'd like to be g. -- M Stewart Milton Keynes, UK http://www.megalith.freeserve.co.uk/oddimage.htm |

| In message , Tony Morgan writes In message , Malcolm Stewart writes Snipped.... Though OT, I might have added that a LANC connector can also be home-made using 2.5mm Stereo Jack Plugs Part Code: FJ85G (2 off at 99p) and using three leads of the same cable. This cable is very useful when copying minDV tape to a Sony VCR that has a LANC socket. A number of Sony and JVC VCRs have LANC. The effect of a LANC connection is that when the camcorder is set to 'Play' the VCR (previously set to Record/Pause) goes from Pause to Play automatically (and stops if the camcorder is switched to Standby). The LANC connection also works the other way round (for Sony camcorders with DV-in with a LANC-enabled VCR). This time, set the camcorder to analogue pass-through and Standby - and set the VCR to Play/Pause. Now when you switch the camcorder to Record the VCR is automatically switched to Play. If there's no tape in the camcorder and iLink (Firewire) is connected, you can use this setup to capture into your video editor. This time the video editor control is passed through to the VCR (switching it from Pause to Play) and makes the transfer of VCR video stock to DV AVI (and hence to DVD burn) very easy. This works with the Sony DCR-TRV30 and DCR-TRV80, so I would expect it to work with any DV-in camcorder that has a LANC socket. -- Tony Morgan http://www.camcord.info |
