Am after a fairly simple software package that offers me step-by-step advice
on how to transfer my digital video tapes to the pc, do a little bit of

Windows Moviemaker: http://www.microsoft.com/moviemaker/ It's basic,
point-and-click sort of stuff.

Assuming that the OP's computer has a IEEE1394 (Firewire, iLink) port
/ card, otherwise they will need one.

you'll also need an mpeg encoder and some DVD authoring s/ware. an all in
one like the Ulead offering might be easiest for you. I use TMPGenc and DVD
author with good results having edited in moviemaker.
