Default Rant - DVdoctor forums...

What the hell were those behind the forums thinking of, attempting a
total rebuild of a working forum on the eve of NAB (one of the biggest
video, NLE, broadcast event of the year), knowing that many companies
are releasing / announcing their latest products at this event and
that many people around the world will be reading such web sites to
gain an insight - are they trying to drive people away to 'competing'
forums ?!...

IMO it's crass stupidity. :~(

as a lowly moderator there , i too was taken by surprise.

BUT

if you read what is there you will see that the change is an enforced
change to allow migration to a new server area and new software.

the poor quality interconnect from it to the new server is causing
major problems , not least of which is data migration to the new
server.

yopu can find all the release info over on hexus.net @
http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews/dvdoctor_list.php

the server will be back online asap ..... it is better than the last
time where the server died and the backups , weren't due to server
admins having not done a recent backup ( i.e. the providers , not the
forum admins )

define a competing forum ?

i have yet to find one where bad products are named and shamed and
where major players from system supply companies willingly help out
customers and non customers.

Thanks for the reply Garry, it was just the timing that got me (48 hrs
before NAB), I know that a lot of improvements are taking place, I
think Bob et al are going to have the last laugh over Highbury...

BTW Garry, what's your take on the Adobe / Macromedia story ?

ok , an even better url : forums.dvdoctor.net

1. oh i think last laughs have already been had ..... there isn't much
FUTURE in HIGHBURY ...... though i do feel sorry for many of the staff
still at Highbury.
some of the best are already elsewhere , deputy editor of
computervideo has a new job with another company ( Real Networks )

2. well i'm sure that adobe will do unto macromedia what they have
always done ...... nick any good ideas , dump the rest and now charge
even more for products.

only time will tell , but i think users will need very large cheque
accounts for upcoming software ...... though adobe can't blame
macromedia for incompatibilities from now on , and flash will no doubt
be a video output format.

Before peope start screaming , DVDOCTOR is offline due to a server
problem.
It will be back asap .......
They are not the only servers unable to be connected to today , so may
be outwith their control.
