Despite working in TV for years I am only just looking at

getting

some

editing software at home.

This suite looks pretty good and the price point is nice.

Can anyone offer any objective opinions?

Lacks functionality, considering the price point of it's bigger
brother (RTX100).

But it's bigger brother is considerably more expensive.

I was kind of hoping for opinions on how the product compared to
competing products at similar price points.

But what are the real savings (or not...) going to be, the RTX10
doesn't seem to come bundled with Premiere anymore so you're going

to

have to add the cost of editing software onto your purchase. The
RTX10, IMO, now seems to fail into a no-mans land, more money than

the

Studio type entry level card / software bundles but (at circa 300

GBP)

it's to expensive when you add the cost of decent software

compared to

the RTX100 etc.

RTX10 + Abobe premiere = circa 900 GBP

RTX100 + Abobe bundle = circa 700 GBP

[source DVC]

As I said, the RTX10 just doesn't add up anymore !

Unless you get it on Ebay for 180 uk pounds with P Pro 1.5!!

Well, I suppose you could get it for nought off the back of the lorry
too...

No. this is a legitimate copy of all the software and a new / unused board!

Thanks for your moronic sic helpful /sic comment ! :~(

Don“t understand what you mean by that, nor your use of "sic", but I suppose
yes, it is helpful for me to point out that things can be purchased at great
savings and legally too if one cares to take the trouble to search (and
remove one“s blinkers!)

"it is helpful for me to point out that things can be purchased at great

Doing research as to where it can be bought at the best price isn't the
difficult bit. I'm sure that as Newsgroup users anyone on here will
already have that bit figured out.

The difficult bit, and part of the reason for newsgroups, is so we can
seek the advice of people who already have experience with the product
in order to make a totally informed purchase decision.

Hence my original question. Unfortunately the thread has been thrown
around by a troll and a bunch of pedants who have failed to offer any
useful advice at all and instead concentrate on internal bickering.

Do you guys really have nothing better to do?

Precisely my reason for correcting someone“s erroneous calculation of
ownership of the item you requested views on. Surely price pays a part in
your decision - if not go for the RT.X100 without a thought.

The difficult bit, and part of the reason for newsgroups, is so we can
seek the advice of people who already have experience with the product in
order to make a totally informed purchase decision.

OK, the RT.X10 is an excellent piece of kit. Definitely worth what I paid
for it. It has some limitations, which are easily discovered on the Matrox
website where you can see a side by side comparison between the X10 and the
X100.
Personally I can“t give advice on comparing it with other products of a
similar price range as I never found anything. Many software alone solutions
will cost a lot more.

Hence my original question. Unfortunately the thread has been thrown
around by a troll and a bunch of pedants who have failed to offer any
useful advice at all and instead concentrate on internal bickering.

I thought you got one or two useful snippets there - after all one of the
inherent properties of Newsgroups is that we get all sorts of folks and all
sorts of comments. Doesn“t take too much effort to ignore the background
noise.

Do you guys really have nothing better to do?

Maybe they (we?) are waiting for a big rendering job to complete and are a
bit bored.

Careful, Mr Morgan and Mr Turner will be accusing you of changing ID
to get out of peoples kill files....

The fact that they have not commented on your use of at least two ID's
prove that they didn't care for facts but were intent on trolling.

Amen......

Ok...Rich...several things i would suggest to get an answer to your
question.

1. Visit the support page of Matrox (I have rt2500) and go to users forums
for both products. I say this because I think real world users comments are
the best for 'trending' issues that real users come up against because one
thing for sure is that first you must make sure you have the right hardware,
there's a stack of boards/chipsets that this won't work (you would be
surprised), also the hardware is tied to the software (premiere) and so you
might want to explore these aspects too...

2. I have had a look at both products ages ago and I have to say that I
would probably go for the 100 than the 10 even if as others had suggested
that it meant buying it off ebay. Mainly because it's more powerful and I
don't *think* that the RTX10 has 'real time' colour correction, and I would
find that very very handy.

3. If you work in the industry already, why don't you have a look at the
feature set comparison charts on the matrox website and see if the feature
set of the RTx10 match what you want it to do. You can find these on the
product pages for each products.

4. This is OT i know, but I was a Mac users for 4 years, 10 years ago and
have spent the last 6 years on PC. I've used FCP on a Mac G5 and for my
money it's better than any matrox/pc combo for stability by a huge factor.
Just something to consider given the cost of the Matrox cards, you may like
to look at second hand Mac to dedicate for video instead. (for the mac v pc
trolls out there...don't even think about it)

Cheers
Steve

Having followed this thread (even after beginning a similar
one fairly recently that ended-up "un-ended"), all I can say
is that "something appears to be in the air". I've been looking
at UK suppliers for a while, and the number of RT10/100 +
Premiere 1.5 "bundles" is rapidly diminishing. I think the
two firms may have, erm, 'fallen out'?
For WYSIWYG real-time hardware-assisted editing,
what else is there at anywhere near this price?
Regards,

I personally know nothing about it, but since I recall reading something
about using external hardware editing equipment with Vegas 5, I've just
had a quick look in Vegas 5 Help.

It talks specifically about Contour ShuttlePro, Contour Shuttle Express
(formerly Space Shuttle), PowerMate and "other controllers".

Vegas also supports joystick control, with profiles being supplied (or
downloadable) for various types of joystick control.

Nah, clearing the shelves I suspect, NAB is just around the corner and
that means new products...

I hinted at this after the videoforum in January.
One senior matrox employee 'left' shortly after this to join Adobe
.......
Adobe don't like hardware and software selling below the £1,000 mark
when their software on it's own has a retail value of £616.00
