Currently it doesn't but given the lack of responses from anyone

else, I
think Scenalyzer is a good start, and does everything else. It's

not like
you've never made alternative suggestions is it?

Probably because there doesn't seem to be anything that is free, as
Tony Morgan says in his reply, the functionality that the OP wants is
going to cost.

Default Indexing DV-tapes

Hello!

I'm looking for an application (Windows XP + free) that can make indexes

of
my DV digital video tapes.

The functionality I'm looking for is:

- Thumbnail-creation of each scene on the DV-tape with display of

timestamp.
- Adding comments/keywords.
- Searching for comments/keywords for easily retrieval of video-clips.
- If possible: Batch capture of selected DV-scenes to harddisc.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance and best regards

Morten L.Pedersen

Ok - it seems like it's not possible to find theese functions for free. So I
think I'll buy Scenalyzer.

Just out of curriosity:
There are so many (free) programs for indexing cd's (Both data and music,
with offline-search-capabilities). Is indexing a DV-tape so different from
indexing a CD?
Isn't this a challenge for "a young ambitious programmer" to make such a
(free) program ? ;-)

Regards

scenalyzer is well worth the very small fee involved as it does much more
than you want. I use it for capturing all video and a 2pre" rough cut to get
rid of extraneous material from beleaguered hard discs. The indexing
facility is really awesome - I have over 400 tapes each occupying about
50-80 Mb.
Scenalyzer is being developed by a really nice guy who listens to peoples
requests - he's promised keyword searches in the next version!
Quite honestly the best bit of software I've ever spent a very small amount
of money on - and he doesn't pay me!

So if 'key word searching' is promised for the *next* version it
doesn't do all the OP wants ATM so is rather useless ATM for tape
indexing...

Got any better solutions? Pen and paper perhaps?

Well, not quick and not automatic but it is free, most databases allow
for images etc now, so a screen capture saved to the database.....

Yes - but your "database solution" takes a lot of "manual labour".
I was looking for a more automatic way of doing things.
I have bought a licence for Scenalyzer, and it does a very good job making a
visual overview of the content of my tapes. The only thing missing is the
ability to attach some describing words to the clips.
If that feature is included in the next version of the program, then that
would be a lot more comfortable than your suggestion.

regards.
