I am currently upgrading some NLE components of mine,
and wonder if and which TFT monitors with their certain specifics
have already become an option for NLE systems.

My VGA is the Matrox 550 Dual Head.
By now, I put the program window (Premieres of all versions)
on a CRT, and preview on a simple TV. That works fine.

I wonder, if any TFT can be used for the program window,
(and maybe for previewing as well - my final output *IS* for TV)
and which brand and type, or better, which specs, as to

- Contrast rate,
- visibility angles,
- digital DVU or analogue D-sub
- resolution

In mind is a Samsung SyncMaster 913 for 400 EUR.

My friend has this model and he paid approx what you say you can get it for.
He has never forgiven me for getting a Sony S93 for only ?299 in a sale. It
blows the Samsung away in every respect! (He offered me a swap plus ?150 - I
turned him down).

I first headed for the Samsung 213 T in black,
a 21.3 inch highly appraised beast for just 720 USD,
but due to its native resolution of huge 1600 x 1200,
finally ordered the Samsung 910 T for 395 USD:

Good contrast, brightness, refreshing and dvi for video,
and pivoting function for writing (I am an mag writer)
with nice reviews from many like minded users.

Hope, surface mail USA-GER won't eat the good price.

For those in the UK, you can also be expected to pay at lease 17.5% of
the UK RRP. This will likely be added on by the carriers who these days
collect for the C&R before they'll make delivery.

A friend recently bought a digital still camera from the US, and
finished up paying more than he would have paid by buying on-line from a
UK company.

I suspect that the German customs might have a similar arrangement with
the carriers.

Right, the EU imposes common import duties.
FYI, see your national customs and excise,
me in Kiel-GER uses www-zoll-d.de
look for the TARIC code, which varies !

Digital still cams, tft, processors, etc. have non.
Single lenses and objectives have 6.7 or so,
otherwise "household" kinda stuff isn't really taxed.

After FedEx or so ships it here, you sign the papers,
get a customs bill from FedEx some 3 month later,

* based upon trustworthy declarations of the goods :-) *
as e.g. "brandnew and veery $$$", or "2nd hand defect"
and don't make a harddrive a "video player & recorder"

that's about it.

I see no reason not to purchase int'lly as a privateer
when car makers buy 65 percent of my car abroad
and sell it as "made in GER" (or GBR, or FRA)
It always depends on many individual preferences.
