| I've just downloaded all of this newsgroup from news.indvidual.net, 900+ messages starting January 30, and have been through them. I can't see anything like a FAQ, is there one I've missed? Or should I just go ahead and post my query anyway? Chris C |

Chris C Forums are better for FAQ's as these support "stickies", items which are always at the top like FAQ's. |

I d/l up to 1000 'old' messages when I get a new newsgroup (NIN didn't have that many for this one, only 600 or so), I try to follow the 'netiquette' advice of looking for a FAQ and browsing existing threads before jumping in. Many newsgroups have a FAQ posted once a month or so (sometimes more frequently), so I look first. Some groups have a FAQ on a website at which new subscribers can be pointed... Chris C |

Why is a message that some moderator thinks important better, those messages *are* intended for important information, they are not much use for a FAQ as every message would have a an 'Important' tag on it - every question / answer in a FAQ is important otherwise it wouldn't be there in the first place. The point of a FAQ is that all the common question are listed on a web page, even the best web forums still have a FAQ section - the reason why this group doesn't have a FAQ is because when ever one has been suggested there seems to be a 101 different answers to each and every suggested inclusion or who / were it should be hosted. |

Just to add, the one person who offered to host a groups FAQ on one of his servers placed this paragraph at the bottom of his own index page regarding contributions whilst suggesting, at the time of the sites launch, that it would / could serve as a groups FAQ. "If you would like to contribute an article to this site it would be welcome and I would provide a credit to you. I do however, reserve the right to edit any copy before inclusion and if I disagree with any advice of views I also reserve the right to not include the article here." As I said, not what you expect from someone offering to run a FAQ page..... I'm not going to mention who the person was, but needless to say any of the regulars will know. |

No, seriously I don't... NO SERIOUSLY ! :~) May Hell freeze over first. |
