Default Preview window crash

Hi hope someone can help.
Im trying to capture some video from a dv camcoder via firewire card
but no matter what software I use ie studio 8, moviemaker or mydvd it
crashes xp after a 2 mins. I installed xp pro on another hd so I
had a dual boot system, I installed studio 8 on that new install with
nothing else but a bare xp system, the capture worked for 2 mins then
the preview screen froze everytime, I dont think it is the software im
using I think it is xp itself. have done all the latest xp/video
card/directx updates but it still wont capture, I had this working
about a month ago perfectly with studio 8 it captured a 50 min video I
know thats hard to beleive with studio 8 what with all the problems
this software has, can anyone help.

I renewed the firewire card and put a new 550w power supply in and it
still crashes out?.
I did a new install of xp pro on my harddisk and that still
didnt work, this is driving me nuts,

Can anyone help

p4 2.54
radeon 9000 pro 128mb
