| My Philips VR 750 video cassette recorder has become confused. (Possibly due to a mains failure a few days ago.) It thinks it has a recording programmed for the future, and so continually turns itself off after a few minutes of in-activity from the tape transport. (So I can't use it for watching those TV channels not available to my older TV.) I've checked through the Menu item listing Timer Recordings for the future, but there's nothing there. I've checked the manual but can't see anything relevant. I've tried a timer recording to see if this would clear the memory bit. No. I've tried disconnecting it from the mains for over an hour, but when I reconnected, the "timer" symbol was showing again. What it needs is the good old 3 finger salute which reset and sorted our old DOS computers! How do I do it? (Currently it's disconnected, but with no tape in. Let's hope!) Thanks for any ideas. -- M Stewart Milton Keynes, UK http://www.megalith.freeserve.co.uk/oddimage.htm |

Unless something got spiked due to a voltage surge I doubt the timer would be of a power off memory type so leaving it disconnected for a few *days* might help (this will allow any of the capacitors to discharge). |

I've had the recorder off since my last posting (4 days ago), and when I turned it back on two hours ago, the "timer" symbol re-appeared instantly! I put a tape in, turned it off, and left it. After a minute or so, it started recording by itself, and eventually after I'd rewound the tape twice, the "timer" symbol disappeared, and it now seems to be back to normal. 4 days without power wasn't sufficient time to destroy the memories, as it instantly found the stations without going through a search. Hopefully it will record the 2nd. of Dibnah's journeys later this evening. -- M Stewart Milton Keynes, UK http://www.megalith.freeserve.co.uk/oddimage.htm |
