| Hi All I've got a JVC GR-D53 camcorder, I bought a firewire card some months back and when I installed it in my PC I dabbled a bit, and got some results, but to do any serious work I needed to clear disk space. Now when I've gone back to the setup, the PC doesn't see the camera. My question is... should I need to load drivers specific for the camera to see it via firewire? Unfortunately I'm a complete plank, and have mislaid the disk that came with camera. Trying to get drivers from JVC website(s) seems like a difficult task, even if the drivers do exist on one of their sites. I've no doubt I'll turn my CD up after further searching, but I really wondered whether I need it or is something else wrong. Would appreciate your comments. Cheers Mark |

| Hi Gary I omitted to say, the other night I tried installing the capture software that came with the camera on win2k (same PC - dual boot) but could not see the camera. I know this sounds like the 1394 card not working, but it looked OK in system properties. Cheers Mark gary mackenzie wrote in message . .. Cheers Mark you need generic (msdv.inf) drivers for a firewire card. the cameras drivers are usually for usb connectors for streaming and still picture transfer. when you connect the camera in the 'vcr' mode and switch on , the pc should look for drivers and install is it windows xp you are using ? | Hi Gary I Removed the 1394 card, Uninstalled logitech webcam ( I noticed that some files were used by this and MSDV) rebooted, reinstalled 1394 card, plugged in camera and it was detected. The setup does not work perfectly by any means. Freezing occurs, audio seems to drop out at a high level, this is almost as if it is being clipped. I'm using intervideo windvd creator v1 The PC op system is win ME RAM 256 MB Pentium 3 Any tips? Cheers Mark (Mark Phillips) wrote in message . com... Hi Gary Thanks for your response, you've confirmed what I thought. The PC is running windows ME. I did notice that the mouse pointer changed to busy status for a fraction of a second when I switched the camera on. I'll have another go tonight. Cheers Mark gary mackenzie wrote in message . .. Run EnditAll *before* doing any video work. -- Tony Morgan http://www.camcord.info |

Freezing occurs, audio seems to drop out at a high level, this is almost as if it is being clipped. This is often caused by the firewire connection being momentarily interrupted. You need to check whether the firewire driver interrupt is shared with anything else. I'm afraid that I can't remember where is the used interrupt list on ME but in XP it is settings/control panel/system/device manager/view resources. If the isn't any dual use then the problem is something else :-) Stuart www.mckears.com www.oldfart.tv - have your say about the state of UK Television |
