| Advice please I have a Canon MV600i attached to a bullet cam (small external camera) mounted to my motorbike/helmet and powered by the bikes 12V battery. This setup works http://www.naldernet.plus.com/minehead%2011%20mins.WMV however its a pain in the **** to use the IR remote control to start the recording, then pack away the camera and remote before we set off and have the camera constantly recording all the boring bits. I'd much prefer a camera with a LANC control that I could press on the handlebar of the bike to record on/off when I want. Zoom functions are not important. Now, I hear the newer version the MV700i has this capability so great However, I'd also like to power the camcorder from the bikes battery also so I don't run our of charge over a weekend, So in summary, can anyone please suggest something to match the following criteria ? oh and thanks in advance Mini DV Camcorder Must Have AV in (for the bullet cam) Remote record button On/Off as described above Possibility to power from external Car/Bike 12V supply (alternator may supply up to 15 volts) -- Vass ................................................ Now: YZF-R1, CBR1100xx-x Then: A100, MBX80, XL125, CB400, FZR600, CBR600Fv http://www.naldernet.plus.com/index2.html |

| "Vass" came forth with the following in uk.rec.video.digital Advice please Mini DV Camcorder Must Have AV in (for the bullet cam) Remote record button On/Off as described above Possibility to power from external Car/Bike 12V supply (alternator may supply up to 15 volts) I use a Sony TRV730 and a LANC but was huge, so I've just got a Sony HC40E. Small enough to fit in the tail piece on my ZX12R. and run the cables to the bullet cam mounted under the front fairing. This one uses a one button stop/start rec and hold to power down The HC30E also has analogue in/out but has a lower ccd pixel resolution, which don't matter for what we use it for BTW what mike did you use as one I tried from Maplin was way to sensitive -- Mark |

| Silly question, but are you sure your mv600i has not got a LANC socket, my mv500i has one. Jessops do a cheap LANC controller, about £30 I think. |

Bill where is it placed on your 500i ? The only sockets on my 600i are DC In 8.4V (rear below battery) S-Video out (beneath lens) USB (beneath lens) Microphone (RHS just below lens) AV In/Out (RHS just below lens) thats all there is, I;ve searched for pictures of the 700i to see this LANC socket but have failed to find one thanks -- Vass |

| Scrap that I've just found this http://www.whatcamcorder.net/reviews...00_sockets.jpg and they unfortunatly have that extra hole at the top I guess for the LANC control ? They removed this for some reason on the 600i :-( -- Vass |

They removed this for some reason on the 600i :-( Thats a shame, if its any help there are some mv500's for sale on ebay, what they end up selling for is anyones guess. At least they use the same batteries as the 600, you may get a bargin or not. Regarding powering from your bike, I think maplin have multi-voltage adapters, but you'd need to chop the connector off of the canon power supply because I've not seen a connector like that one before (doen't mean they're not out there). As long as it outputs 7.4 (the battery voltage) and 8.4 (the input supply) you should be OK, but remember to check the polaritity before cutting and again after fixing. I do wonder how easy it would be to control the LANC device with thick motorcycle gloves on though, very small buttons. Bill. |

Bill. This one http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/lanc_sports.htm Piece of **** to use even with gloves on :0) The LED's are bright enough to let you know what mode your're in on a bike -- Mark |

LOL Vass - you're still not set up from nearly 6 months ago? http://tinyurl.com/65unb Or maybe the disparate advice you got last time left you none the wiser. About the best I could come up with (without using Lanc) was a fibreoptic connection from camera remote IR-out, strapped to your bike, leading to the camera IR in in your bag. Not ideal, but without a Lanc camera, I think you're looking at an ancient camera with a wired "remote". It sounds like you're after a replacement camera now, though, so buying a Lanc-enabled one is a possibility. As to the power issue - no idea. Do bikes have a 12V supply similar to those supplied in cars (I know they won't have cig lighters - why would they, on a bike?) but if there's a built-in way to get 12V from the battery then you'd just need to hack apart the penis-shape plug for the appropriate voltage adapter for your camera model. I think. |
