| Is there software (free?) that will allow me to create a version of my recording which plays back at double speed? I want to maintain DV quality in a clip that I can then pull into an editor to make a movie in the normal fashion. -- Wally www.artbywally.com www.wally.myby.co.uk |

In Premiere you can capture in time-lap mode that would give the effect of speeding up the film. we have just captured a 10 hour shoot in to 30 mins you may need to shoot in frame mode though to stop interlace problems. However most edit programs will allow some sort of change to the clip in the time domain. |

I had been messing about with TV captures using VirtualDub, and that seems a good program, at least for getting started with, but I found out tonight that it can't read my DV files - it's looking for a decoder that I don't have, even though Media Player can play the DV AVI files just fine. (I don't know if VirtualDub can do what I want, but it does has stuff about removing frames.) Premier's one of those pricey things, isn't it? Is there a 'lite' version? -- Wally www.artbywally.com www.wally.myby.co.uk |

You need to have filmed the raw footage in "frame" mode on your camera, though. If you haven't done this, you will need to deinterlace and render out as an intermediate DV AVI first. Then bring THAT file in and speed it up. If your target playback device is a progressive TV setup or computer VDU, and you haven't shot the footage in frame mode, you're up the proverbial creek. It will look rough whatever you do to it. |

| Gary MacKenzie came forth with the following in uk.rec.video.digital http://www.inmatrix.com/files/avifrate_download.shtml I've been looking for something like this for ages. Just had a quick play and the output is excellent. Does a better job than studio 9+ -- Mark |
