Default DV metadata - is it used?

The DV specs list a large amount of information that can be encoded
into DV files/data streams.

e.g.

Closed Caption
Teletext
Genre of content

But is any of this information written or used in professional
equipment?

The spec also mentions "pre-recorded" DV tapes - do these actually
exist?

Thanks

Colin
