Default Dead MV10

I have a completely dead MV10. a DC supply of 12 V and unknown polarity was
stuffed into the (7.2V?) dc in jack. This may be coincidental

..I opened the thing up to see if there was a blown fuse or regulator
circuit - I cant find a fuse. There is a small board on which is (amonst
other things) a 4-way (or was it 6-way) conector that routes red/black power
from the battery to this (regulator?) board and also routes red/black DC in
to the other circuits. Power from the battery is good. Power from this
board is good.

Would appreciate any clues to try next, or tips for removing the tape.

TIA, Mal
