Default Studio Version 8 and CD Music

I used to have trouble with studio 8 'loosing track' of what it was
doing and leaving in deletions etc. I uninstalled it for a while then
had another go. I thought that this new installation was 'miraculously'
working fine, however I have now discovered another problem.
It simply will not allow me to add CD music properly.
When I choose this option I enter the CD name and I can choose any of
the tracks on the CD. When I try to play them I get no sound, just the
seconds incrementing as if it were playing.
If I ignore this slight annoyance and go ahead and add the track to the
movie then the whole shebang goes tits up ( excuse the technical
jargon).

The track appears to add although there is actually no sound added. Any
attempts to further modify the timeline cause Studio 8 to hang,
resetting the PC is the only way out. even CTRL ALT DEL refuses to
comply.

In the settings for adding CD music there is a long list of
possibilities.
For anyone who has this working OK, what setting do you have here.

PS Other software like Media Player 9 capture from CD no problem.

Have you tried the Studio 8.8 beta version? I find it is getting much more
stable.

Studio has had problems with music from CDs even back in the days when it
was called StudioDV. Even in the V8 version CD music it can be a problem,
the best solution is to rip the music from the CD ( plenty of software
available to that ) and put the music in as a sound file rather than
directly from CD.

BTW if you are not aware you can place sound files on either of the
additional audio tracks, which means the bottom audio track is not just for
the SmartSounds Music.

Open the ripped file using the sound effects option,
i.e.
Go to the sound effects and click on the little grey folder which will turn
to a yellow folder when the window appears select the folder where you put
the ripped files.
Select one of the files and click on open, the list of ripped files (wav or
MP3) will appear in the sound effects selection window then it a case of
drag and drop.

As I said earlier you can drop the files on either of the Audio tracks
(sound effects or Smart Sound). Do not forget you must be in the Time line
mode to drop these files in to the appropriate track and postion.

Editing. Once the files are in the time line you can shorten them and
position them at your will, along with any Volume changes you wish to make.

I now have this sorted. Even adding a track as a sound effect would not
work. Uninstalling and re installing came up blank.

As I was off work for a few days I re formatted my drive and added a
partition in NTFS while I was at it.
I have now re installed Studio 8 and the CD ripping works no bother.
I have made no other hardware configuration changes.
I blame Bill Gates !
