Default Copying 8mm films

I have found my old super 8mm projector and I was wondering what is the best
way to transfer old film to DV? I tried pointing the camera at a white card
onto which I projected the image. But got a lot of flicker - I presume this
is due to differences in the frame rate between camera and projector, I seem
to remember that for 18fps film you should set the projector to something
like 16fps for a 50hz camera(PAL)camera - assuming its a verispeed
projector -which mine is. Any thought anyone?
