Default Poor quality capture from Sony TRV19 to Ulead Video Studio 7

I'm a (nearly total) newbie too in this area, and have the TRV22; video from
which I've uploaded to my PC using a firewire card and Ulead VS 7. Somewhere I
think I saw some reference to a "preview" mode having lower resolution, and that
may be what you're seeing on your laptop screen.
Captured & edited video sent to miniDV tape and then viewed on TV via the TRV22
has been fine.
[I've bought a new dedicated HDD and this has given me "0" dropped frames when
uploading video. Before this I'd had a fair number of dropped frames - but then
my somewhat full C: drive needed serious defragging. It was quicker to install
a new HDD!]

Hi Malcom , thanks for the advice . As I've said to Juan below having never
seen any dv footage before I think I was being a bit too ambitious as to the
quality recorded .

Graham .
