| Hi all, I do not wish to appear dim, but can someone please point me in the direction of an article, or tell me what a codec is? Why I might need to change mine? and are there any advantages to doing so? I have a decent camcorder ( Canon XM1), powerful pc ( Athlon 2200, 512mb Ram plenty of hard drive space running Win XP, with firewire connection via my SB Audigy card) I have Premiere 6.5, and capture using scenalyser. The system works now i have tweaked a few things, and the quality of video is great. What improvements can I get by changing a codec? Thanks Peter |

If you have Premiere that ships with good codecs, so as a first approximation I would only fiddle with codecs if something is obviously wrong. For a first pass at codecs look at: http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/codecs.html and possibly http://www.fourcc.org/, particularly the links section, although quite a few are now broken. Regards, Harry. |
