I don't know if it helps but I paid a fortune (£1250 because I got it the
week it came out having read so many shiny reviews) for the GrDV2000 - the
'big brother' of that camera, and it has been nothing but trouble. It has
been in the repair shop longer than I've had it - I've used it about three
times. It was the biggest waste of money - a hundred or two quid more and I
could have got a Canon XM1. Doh. I don't know about that JVC - maybe it's
great but I wouldn't touch JVC with a barge pole now. If I had a few hundred
quid, I would get on ebay and try and get a 2nd hand VX1000 or something
equally tried & tested.

Well, the little DVL167 seems to be generally well made.

No problems yet. There's a rather flimsy looking cover for the
battery charging point on the camera.

The other annoyance is that there are no mic sockets - so either I
record sound using DAT (no chance) or relay on the inbuilt mics.

Microsoft Movie Maker is ok for mucking around, but which of the £50
packages do people find best? I've tried the demo of Pinnacle Studio
8.

It does crash.

Ulead Video 7 is now being tested. Seems easier to use.

I have a very high spec PC - 2.66 GHz chip, 160 MB hard drive, 2 GB
Memory....
