| I've just purchased a new VCR (Sony SLV-SE730G/I). Does anyone know if it's normal for the transport mechanism on these models to emit a mechanical "whine" while playing back tapes (it's definitely the machine - not tape cassette noise - I've tried several cassettes). Obviously I'd expect noise whilst fast forward/reversing but not during playback and whilst only just noticeable when the TV volume is normal, it's very apparent during quiet passages (annoyingly so). I contacted the shop who supplied it and they told me that transport noise is now very common with most modern makes! The manufacturers are supposed to be "concentrating more on DVDs so less effort goes into VCR quality" which I find difficult to accept. Neither the 8-year-old Panasonic VCR that it's replacing, nor the one I had previous to that exhibited this problem and I can't believe that manufacturing quality would diminish to the extent that older units were quieter than modern ones. Are they taking the micky? Any comments please.... Dave C |
