| | Canon XL2 Repair cost by
mmcd
Hi,
I have a Canon XL2 which has a problem in that the 'DV out' does not work.
Alll other outputs work fine.
I have sought a quote from Jessops to repair the camera.
They have quoted £407 and the repair description is
'Parts - 1 Main BD ASSY'.
Can anyone assist in relation to the neature of the repair suggested and the cost?

| | RIP camcorder - replacement? by
Mike Scott[_2_]
Ouch. 8-year-old Sony trv240 now has no firewire interface (a known
problem with badly designed connectors, iirc??). Anyway, a quick phone
call to Sony quotes me a fixed price of over £170 to repair, which is
ludicrous. So, time for new camcorder I think.
Trouble is, I'm way out of touch with developments. Is something like
the Canon fs306 a reasonable replacement, without spending the...

That every time I switch the video recorder on I get a messaged saying 'a
new DVB service has been found?
I let it run once a week, but as soon as I have let the thing run through
the process of locating new programmes, the next day I get the same message,
surely they cannot be introducing new stations every day?

| | Copying video output to a HDD file? by
Peter Jason
I have many old overseas movies which come with subtitles in
files, or selectable subtitles from the menu in the player
software such as "VLC" media player.
I can get these to play OK on the computer, though it is
hard to burn them to DVD/XVid with the subtitles of my
choice imbedded in the image.
Therefore I ask:

poachedeggs
I'm posting this on behalf of my friend, who is about to buy a
laptop. She has a DV camera that's from back when they cost a bit,
and a new Flip HD. She still very satisfactorily uses the DV camera
with her 2004 Mac, which is a 1 ghz machine, possibly 1.3, with 1 gb
of RAM. Her pc is older still, a 1 ghz machine with 512 mb of RAM.
Obviously these are long in the tooth now, and we've been...

I want to edit a quick video on my laptop. At home I have pinnacle studio on
the main computer but only have laptop with me so I tried editing it in
Windows Live Movie Maker. It seemed to work surprisingly well but when I try
to save it as a movie file instead of a project I get the error message "The
system cannot find the path specified". Same message no matter how I try to
save it and...

Hi,
In the next few days I intend to purchase the Panasonic HDC-TM10
Hi-Def camcorder.
A review say " Plug the HDC-TM10 into a PC using the mini-USB cable
and you can obviously copy your photos and video off directly. Video
footage is encoded in the AVCHD format as .MTS files. Panasonic
supplies its fiddly HD Writer software for content management, plus
basic editing and conversion."

| | Can I attach a microphone to this Samsung Sports Camcorder? (model:VP-X220L) by
ship
Hi
I have acquired a Samsung Sports Camcorder (model: VP-X220L)
and need to attach an external microphone to it.
Unfortunately it is a model which is 2 or 3 years old now but it was
'top-of-the-range' at the time - (it even has 2GB of internal memory!)
Samsung's website don't mention any accessories at all for it now.

From my research TestFreaks.co.uk looks quite useful for aggregating
reviews from elsewhere.
From what I can see the Panasonic SDR-S26 looks quite promising (about
£181) but no sign of an external microphone hole. ??
Camcorders - SD Camcorders - SDR-S26 - Specification - UK & Ireland
The Samsung VP-MX20 also looks quite promising (£132) but again no
sign of any way of connecting an external...

filming the road ahead from a car (or motorcycle) as you drive (usually up a

| | Canon VIXIA HF S100 Flash Memory High Definition Camcorder by
Just D
All,
Any positive feedback after using Canon VIXIA HF S100 Flash Memory High
Definition Camcorder or how it is called in Europe? Its price is getting
down, it's around $900 now, I just made one company drop $200 from the price
because of the competitors. But I'm still not sure if it makes sense to buy
it. On one hand - it's the very best in this class, it's HD, it's using SDHC
and a 32GB...
