'GP Hardy[_2_ Wrote:
;19218'] I have a Canon XL2 which has a problem in that the 'DV out'
does not-
work.
Alll other outputs work fine.
I have sought a quote from Jessops to repair the camera.
They have quoted £407 and the repair description is
'Parts - 1 Main BD ASSY'.
Can anyone assist in relation to the neature of the repair suggested
and the cost?-
Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a secondhand MiniDV camera? You'd lose
the
ability to shoot 90min per tape, but that's a small price for a 90%
(ish)
saving on the XL2 repair.
The XL2 produces the best recordings I have come across
You said it's just the DV out that's broken on your XL2
So you can continue to film using the XL2, then transfer the resulting
footage to your PC via a cheap and cheerful consumer MiniDV camera.
Plus you have the benefit (albeit in an unlikely scenario) that you can
continue to film while the "capture" is taking place.
The reason you lose LP mode is that different manufacturers have different
standards when it comes to the slowing down of tape. My XL1 and XM1 can read
each other's LP tapes, but my little sony handycam can't read them (or vice
versa) |
