I did a straight copy of the original WinTV MPEGs to a DVD and they
played fine on a Proline TV with built in DVD player as well as 8 year
old Philips TV with built in DVD player.

The latter sealed it for me, if an old Philips machine can play the
files OK then a new device surely should.

Thanks for your advice, I learnt a bit about the make up of video files.
