Not 100% sure, properties merely show mpeg.
They were created with WinTV and I think they use mpeg2
Media player is not used much so may be missing some codecs but the
Iomega media player had the latest firmware so I assume is just not
able to deal with the files properly.

Most TV cards and USB adapters have software that can be configured in many
ways and called something like high quality, best , good, standard. What
this does is limit the Bits per sec. Media player does not come with the
MPEG 2 codec as its a commercial to be paid for codec but the win TV
software probably included it so it should work.
My archos 605 Media player needed a separate purchase for Mpeg 2 and will
play but It might get a bit uppity about playing any DRM protected Video
