I've tried to copy a film onto a DVD+R but as soon as the transfer is
finished, the recorder 'finalises' the DVD so I cannot copy any more onto
the same DVD.

Is there some way I can get round this problem?

Another case of not RTFM...
Normally you can select if to automatically finalise at the end of
recording in the set up or record menu. Anyway, what are we talking about
here, a computer drive, a stand alone DVD recorder or what?!

It's a Panasonic DMR-EX77EB. and the manual was written in chinese,
translated to urdu, then to german, then to italian, and finally to english,
as they usually are, and contain no information of any sense!

I'll try to read it again, but previous attempts have not been at all
helpful!

I've got the DMR-EX87EB which has a common manual with the 77. In fact
the two recorders are identical with the exception of the hard disk
size. The manual (in my view) is a very good manual, though with the
many features of the 87/77 it might seem overly complicated unless you
set aside a little time to read (and re-read) it.

You'll find the information you need on page 21 and (more specifically)
page 61. Finalising is listed in the index at the back of the manual
(the first place you should have looked !!!).

You might remember that UNLESS you finalise your DVD, you can't play it
on any DVD player/recorder other than the recorder that it was recorded
on.

Anyway, this is Off Topic for this particular newsgroup, and as Jerry
suggested your should RTFM :-)

One of the (several) reasons, BTW, I went for this DVD recorder is the
ability to get your Sky Box to control the recording on the
DMR-EX77EB/DMR-EX87EB.
