Doesn't VirtualDub do this? The "output sequencail avi" (or what ever the
phrasing is) option, never having had a need to use this function I might
be wrong though.

All I can find in my version of VirtualDub (1.6.17) is manually indicating
what portion you want of a file and then save that as a new .avi. But maybe
there are newer versions of VirtualDub with an automatic option. I'll look
into it.
