I'm looking to get into video production again after a long break. I'm aiming to make short videos, mainly for use on the web. Obviously I'd like as good a quality machine as I can afford, but I can only afford about £2000. SD recording would be preferred, as would professional quality audio connections and good low light capability. Two cameras seem promising Panasonic AG-HMC82 Panasonic...

Does anyone have any documentation to configure a wifi dongle to allow streaming of files from a PC to the Screenplay? I've searched the web and there is nothing out there. Many thanks.

Has anyone experience of this camcorder playing slow-motion clips as detailed in the manual? When I try, the clips playback at normal speed. Any advice would be appreciated. JVC have not been helpful.

I'm looking for a device for my TV that does both freeview hd and will also play/stream video from a network hard drive. Couldn't find anything on google. Is there such a device that will work in the UK?

Hello. I have just bought my first ever Blu-Ray player a Sony BDP-S370 and it arrived today. A question. The official Sony Wi-Fi dongle for this player is quite expensive here in the UK at around £60 GBP ($94 USD). Can anyone confirm to me will any type of Wireless USB dongle still work with this player or do I need to get a specific type?

Camera (Canon MV 550i) manual says "Don't have a tape in the camera when transferring VHS through camcorder to computer" (iMovie 6), and footage from VHS player clear as crystal on camcorder screen, but keep getting "Camera no tape" message in iMovie window. Computer recognises camcorder as it shows in iMovie's source dropdown list and also in System Profiler. Even more baffling, Apple's...

Using Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger), and currently iMovie '06, and Canon MV550i. Camcorder now chewing tape on rewind, so looking to replace it with a flash or a HD camcorder - camcorder only used for holidays, family events, local community activities, so very high quality output not essential. iMovie '06 absolutely requires a Firewire (iLink) connection, which the Canon has. I believe that iMovie...

Does anyone know if I should be able to capture video (download from tape) from my camcorder to PC ( Windows 64 bit using Moviemaker)? I have tried using my sons Windows 7 (32 bit) which I used to use when it was running Vista, but I can't get it to work (using Windows Live Movie Maker it says it will rewind the tape but doesn't - using the proper Movie Maker 2.6 I get an error message...

Hi, I have a Canon XL2 which has a problem in that the 'DV out' does not work. Alll other outputs work fine. I have sought a quote from Jessops to repair the camera. They have quoted £407 and the repair description is 'Parts - 1 Main BD ASSY'. Can anyone assist in relation to the neature of the repair suggested and the cost?

Ouch. 8-year-old Sony trv240 now has no firewire interface (a known problem with badly designed connectors, iirc??). Anyway, a quick phone call to Sony quotes me a fixed price of over £170 to repair, which is ludicrous. So, time for new camcorder I think. Trouble is, I'm way out of touch with developments. Is something like the Canon fs306 a reasonable replacement, without spending the...

That every time I switch the video recorder on I get a messaged saying 'a new DVB service has been found? I let it run once a week, but as soon as I have let the thing run through the process of locating new programmes, the next day I get the same message, surely they cannot be introducing new stations every day? I'm posting this on behalf of my friend, who is about to buy a laptop. She has a DV camera that's from back when they cost a bit, and a new Flip HD. She still very satisfactorily uses the DV camera with her 2004 Mac, which is a 1 ghz machine, possibly 1.3, with 1 gb of RAM. Her pc is older still, a 1 ghz machine with 512 mb of RAM. Obviously these are long in the tooth now, and we've been...

I have many old overseas movies which come with subtitles in files, or selectable subtitles from the menu in the player software such as "VLC" media player. I can get these to play OK on the computer, though it is hard to burn them to DVD/XVid with the subtitles of my choice imbedded in the image. Therefore I ask:

I want to edit a quick video on my laptop. At home I have pinnacle studio on the main computer but only have laptop with me so I tried editing it in Windows Live Movie Maker. It seemed to work surprisingly well but when I try to save it as a movie file instead of a project I get the error message "The system cannot find the path specified". Same message no matter how I try to save it and...

Hi, In the next few days I intend to purchase the Panasonic HDC-TM10 Hi-Def camcorder. A review say " Plug the HDC-TM10 into a PC using the mini-USB cable and you can obviously copy your photos and video off directly. Video footage is encoded in the AVCHD format as .MTS files. Panasonic supplies its fiddly HD Writer software for content management, plus basic editing and conversion."

Hi I am trying to record audio tracks *directly* into my laptop (because my camcorder doesnt produce good enough quality sound using it's internal microphone). What would be the best tie-clip microphone for me to buy? How's about the "Olympus ME-15 Tie Clip Microphone" I have a laptop which is a Thinkpad T60 (UK model 2007-F4G) (about 2+

From my research TestFreaks.co.uk looks quite useful for aggregating reviews from elsewhere. From what I can see the Panasonic SDR-S26 looks quite promising (about £181) but no sign of an external microphone hole. ?? Camcorders - SD Camcorders - SDR-S26 - Specification - UK & Ireland The Samsung VP-MX20 also looks quite promising (£132) but again no sign of any way of connecting an external...

Hi Any advice on roughly how much money we'd need to spend to get "good quality" video results that we could post on the web? (Sorry I am a total newbie at video...) £100? £200? We would be hosting it either on YouTube or similar albeit in the best resolution that they can deliver, so there is obviously no need for

Hi I have acquired a Samsung Sports Camcorder (model: VP-X220L) and need to attach an external microphone to it. Unfortunately it is a model which is 2 or 3 years old now but it was 'top-of-the-range' at the time - (it even has 2GB of internal memory!) Samsung's website don't mention any accessories at all for it now.

All, I would like to make my own "Real Life Videos" for Tacx indoor cycling trainers (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmQ3NXw9-BE). All, Any positive feedback after using Canon VIXIA HF S100 Flash Memory High Definition Camcorder or how it is called in Europe? Its price is getting down, it's around $900 now, I just made one company drop $200 from the price because of the competitors. But I'm still not sure if it makes sense to buy it. On one hand - it's the very best in this class, it's HD, it's using SDHC and a 32GB...

All, Have you ever heard about some device that could be used to copy the DV tapes to the computer? I used Canon GL2 to create many tapes. Some of them are already permanently located on my RAID array, but this is a huge amount of data and I'd prefer to use a simle quick way of copying these tapes, but I don't want to use camcorder for this operation. So the question appeared - is it...

Hello all, I wondered if someone could help me. I have copied some video off my MiniDV camera onto my computer via an IEE1394 cable using Windows Movie Maker set to 25fps PAL. I edited the video and added captions etc. then saved the edited video as an AVI 25fps PAL. When I play this AVI video using GOM Player it looks great. Things start to go wrong though when I try to create a DVD...

All, Have you ever heard about possible firmware upgrades for Canon DV camcorders like GL2? There are couple very annoying things in this camcorder and I'm not sure if that already fixed or not. 1. This camcorder supports SDHC media cards, it's easy to find that on the Internet. But the trap is that these cards can only be used for the photos with the great fine resolution - 1.7 MPx. So you...

Might be of interest to some : This landed in my mail from the NASA mailing list. I'm sure somebody will chip in to say it's already been done, but I thought it was a nice idea and the movie is available to the public internationally (that is, as long as you're in either the USA or Strasbourg, France !) Cheers - Neil

I have an issue with my Canon ZR MiniDV camcorder. I have one pixel fairly central in the middle of the screen that is burnt out. Unfortunately it is showing in all my footage. Is there any software that can get rid of this noise afterwards when I am transferring to my computer and editing? I also just wondered if anyone has a webspace explaining all the different consumer camcorder choices both...

I'm looking to replace an elderly VX1000 camera and the FX1000 looks tempting. I want to continue recording to DV tapes so the options in the consumer market are limited now. Has anyone in the group had experience of the FX1000, good or bad? Thanks for your input. Alan S.

I need to convert some .mov files to mpeg2 using Linux. I understand mencoder to be a useful utility and have tried this resulting in an mpeg4 output; I need mpeg2 to play on a specific device. I find the various codec references a wee bit confusing so would appreciate any hints if possible. Many thanks,

Hi, I know that the HDC-SD1 is no longer in production so is not listed on the Panasonic web site but I have been offered one pre-owned for less than the cost of a new HDC-SD9. Is anyone familiar with these models? Are there any serious technical differences between the 2 cameras that anyone is aware of?
